The NES-LTER project integrates observations, experiments, and models to understand and predict how planktonic food webs are changing in the region, and how those changes may impact the productivity of higher trophic levels. Since 2017

As part of their NES-LTER Data Jam creative project, these 6th graders from Newton MA wrote a song about Right Whales and held a bake sale to raise money for Whale and Dolphin Conservation. That's singing and dancing with data! @uslter.bsky.social @whoi.edu @urigso.bsky.social @wellesley.edu #nsf
Long term data is key to understanding, following, and predicting change. OOI has been an incredible asset. This is not ok.

Hey, that's our PI, Heidi Sosik! And she's just one amongst so many other women on our project making waves in ocean science and engineering! @uslter.bsky.social @urigso.bsky.social #nsf
After a short delay, our research team headed out for the spring transect cruise on the R/V Hugh R. Sharp. With room for only 14 scientists, no special guests on board like last spring, but we will get it all done! @whoi.edu @urigso.bsky.social @wellesley.edu @uslter.bsky.social Thank you #nsf !
NES-LTER Data Jam 2026 projects are rolling in! We love student creativity describing patterns and reasoning about data. Pictured: Scratch game designed by 5th graders at Morse Pond School in Falmouth MA, based on NMFS trawl data. tinyurl.com/NES-LTERData... @uslter.bsky.social @whoi.edu

🌊 #URIGSO's Long-Term Plankton Time Series is one of the most valuable continuous records of ocean ecosystem change in the world. Each week, researchers head out on Narragansett Bay to collect samples that track shifts in plankton communities, nutrient cycles, & the health of our changing ocean. πŸ¦‘πŸ§ͺ
This week, our scientists are out on R/V Neil Armstrong for the Future Fishery Alliance's inaugural research cruise! They're gathering data from the Gulf of Maine, a traditionally rich fishing ground that's warming faster than most of the world ocean 🎣 Learn more: go.whoi.edu/fisheryalliance
