I am months late, but this fascinating study shows that evolution is the ultimate tinkerer! Benjamin @huepfkiesel.bsky.social et al. showed how a bacterial DNA segregation system was repurposed into a cytoskeleton that controls cell shape in multicellular cyanobacteria.
