The goal isn’t to grow the union. The goal is to push up wages for current union members. Less hotel supply = higher hotel rates = higher possible wages for workers.

Can someone in the know illuminate me on why Unite Here et al’s strategy is to basically try to cap the number of hotels as opposed to like…measures to specifically unionize hotels?

As someone who visits NYC a couple times a year to see friends and family, I cannot pretend to be a disinterested observer here. Hotels in the city have gotten stupid expensive over the past few years and it’s nuts that more of them aren’t coming online.
