Genetic diversity matters, also in the nature restoration law. Introduction by Julia Geue #consgen #biomonweek2026
Open #PhD #position on “Projecting the #human #impact on #biodiversity” (fully funded 4 years position) in my group @University Zurich & @eawag.bsky.social 🌐 🌍 📈 🦀 🐟 🌳

Can we help plants keep up with climate change? In their study, @carlos-lara0.bsky.social et al. tested whether moving beneficial genes from southern to northern populations of Lupinus angustifolius could boost their ability to cope with warmer conditions 🌱 (1/2)

Psst — just two more days to upload your #CityNatureChallenge photos and help identify what you saw!
Head to the iNaturalist app or inaturalist.org and upload any wildlife photos you snapped between April 24–27. The identification period closes May 10 — then stay tuned for final results on May 13!
What drives the evolution of life histories at the species, population, or molecular level? Why are these Atlantic salmon so incredibly small?
We are inviting potential candidates to express their interest to write a MSCA postdoctoral fellowship with us:

New #ecoevo paper @pnas.org: Evolution of species’ range and niche in changing environments. I show that feedback between evolutionary and population dynamics can create a tipping point where genetic variance erodes, and species’ ranges contract or fragment www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... #popgen 🧬🧪 🌎
📑 The State of Europe’s Forests 2025 #SoEF highlights the status of forests across Europe!
🌳 Indicator 4.6 tracks forest genetic resources via #EUFORGEN, capturing #GeneticDiversity across species and ecozones.🤝 Supporting evidence-based forest policy!

Special Issue on Genetic Rescue is out 🎉🎉🎉
The 21 papers on the SI highlight how evolutionary biology can enhance resilience & long-term survival of biodiversity. Introducing genetically diverse individuals can boost fitness in small, isolated populations 🧬🌿

Preprint finally out! I show that eco-evo feedback can drive a tipping point where genetic drift overwhelms adaptation. This can result in a contraction of a species' range border or range fragmentation. Fragmentation is abrupt and arises readily under rapid temporal change. doi.org/10.1101/2025...
