There are currently indications of a submarine volcanic eruption in the Bismarck Sea. The activity could be linked to an underwater volcano that has only been included in a geological map of the region since 2024. The map was produced under the lead of GEOMAR.

Last week, FV SONNE set sail from Yokohama, Japan, on a expedition to the north-western Pacific. The aim of the GEOMAR expedition SO320/1 is to explore the Hess Rise – one of the largest and, at the same time, least researched volcanic plateaus in the world.

Die METEOR geht auf ihre letzte Fahrt: In Brasilien ist die Expedition M219 von Recife nach Emden gestartet. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Messungen im tropischen Atlantik. Außerdem wird eine neue Messboje vor den Kapverden installiert. Danach wird sie außer Dienst gestellt.
