I’m gonna be honest I don’t believe any amount of fanfic, even if it somehow outnumbered the amount of regular fiction, is clogging any cultural ecosystem anymore than my scrapbook at home is.

Problem is the vast, vast majority of "fix fics" are utter trash that just clog up the cultural ecosystem.
Folks need to just accept art as it is and leave it at that. The creatives are the creatives, not you, so just quietly enjoy their vision already.
