By voting to protect one of their own rather than allowing the investigation to proceed, MEPs have once again reinforced the culture of impunity that has long plagued the European Parliament.
NO EU INSTITUTION IS ABOVE THE LAW Today, the EU General Court backed the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in lifting the immunity of 12 European Court of Auditors (ECA) staff members in an investigation into the potential wrongdoing.
Ultimately, protecting EU funds requires all EU institutions to be transparent and to cooperate fully. No exceptions can be made. Read our article on the court ruling here: buff.ly/K6VyAiv
This ruling also supports ongoing reforms of the EU Anti-Fraud Architecture (AFA), which pushes anti-fraud agencies to work more closely together and give the EPPO sharper teeth.
Another important story focuses on the Aarhus Convention, which requires the EU to be more transparent about environmental and climate policies, yet this is still not happening in practice.
Our lead story this month concerns German EPP MEP Angelika Niebler, who is under investigation over allegations of misuse of Parliament funds.

Last but not least, we highlight the upgraded lobbyists section of Integrity Watch EU, allowing you to discover who really has the EU's ear. Swipe, read and enjoy.
We welcome this ruling, as it sends a clear message: accountability applies to everyone, and no institution can shield its staff from proper scrutiny.
