Should you spot any issues or inconsistencies, please do get in touch! We have a form for correction requests on the website. This is a big project run by a small team, and we do our best to maintain it as well as we possibly can.
I love Gantt charts as a mean to track and communicate progress. Incredible feeling seeing all my PhD research objectives becoming "Complete", with only one final row left to convert!
Hope these new features will be of use to policymakers, publishers, funders, and communities. It's been great seeing the Map cited in so many works out there.
Check out our new *Methodology View* to get a clear, detailed breakdown of our data sources, metrics, and calculations, and get access to our data.
We've added rich, data-driven descriptions for individual districts and news outlets right in the *Map View*.
We’ve just rolled out the biggest update to the @publicinterestnews.org.uk Local News Map (map.publicinterestnews.org.uk) to date!
We have added a whole new set of features and tabs. I will unpack some here below 🧵👇
Meet the *Dashboard View*.
Instead of just looking at the map, you can now also get a high-level, national-level or comparative (district vs national) overview of the structure of the local news ecosystem at a glance.
In the *Map View*, you can now colour districts adjusted by population. This gives you a much more accurate picture of news density and coverage per capita, rather than just showing raw counts of news outlets per district.
A historic moment for local journalism in the UK: direct state funding is finally happening. I’m especially glad to see:
- up to £12m going to local media through a new fund;
- my research for @publicinterestnews.org.uk cited along the way.
