ARTIST POINT UPDATE!
WSDOT maintenance crews are plowing through 20 feet of snow to clear the final 2.7 miles of SR 542/Mt. Baker Hwy, the road to Artist Point. Then, they will clear debris, hang signs and stripe the road. No ETA on the reopening, but progress continues!
FINAL UPDATE: SR 20/North Cascades Hwy is fully opened!!! We finished repairs early and reopened the scenic seasonal highway Sunday, June 14.
Make sure to watch out for wildlife not used to traffic in the area.

Interstate 5 and 90 traffic looking decent but congestion expected to increase with post-match traffic merging with afternoon commute.
The Belgium-Egypt match at Seattle Stadium (Lumen Field) has begun!
Traffic volumes throughout the metro look great (as of 12 pm). Please be mindful the match ends at 2 pm and traffic will be integrating with the start of afternoon commute.
Maintenance crews also took advantage of the NB I-5 closure in Seattle this weekend to get some work done around the Ship Canal Bridge, including:

✅Guardrail work
✅Pipe repair
✅Sensor testing
✅Litter removal

Great news! SR 410/Chinook Pass and SR 123/Cayuse Pass through Mount Rainier National Park are now OPEN for the season! Crews have been clearing snow, installing signs and painting road lines to open by Memorial Day.

UPDATE JUNE 12: Paving work is done! Since then, we've worked to install rock on the shoulders, erosion control, guardrail, barrier and pavement markings.
SR 20 remains closed from Ross Lake Trailhead to Porcupine Creek (MP 140-156) until Fri (6/19) while we finish up work.

UPDATE JUNE 8: Big news from our efforts to repair SR 20/North Cascades Hwy:
1. We started paving Fri (6/5)
2. We now expect to fully reopen the scenic highway by June 19 - in time for the Juneteenth holiday weekend (weather permitting)

HUZZAH! All lanes of NB I-5 in Seattle reopened early! We completed work early Sunday, June 7.
Next step: Early Monday, June 8, express lanes return to AM southbound, PM northbound, until July 10, when we'll have another NB closure to reset the work zone and resume work.

UPDATE JUNE 5: Our crews have been busy preparing damaged sections of SR 20 for paving. On Friday we began that process. We'll continue paving when weather allows.
We still expect to fully reopen SR 20 between Ross Dam Trailhead (MP 134) and Porcupine Creek (MP 156) by June 25.

UPDATE MAY 30: Good news. One of the emergency contracts on SR 20 is complete & today we moved the west closure point from MP 130 to the seasonal closure gate at MP 134 - restoring access to Diablo Lake Vista Point & recreation accessible from the Ross Dam Trailhead.

UPDATE MAY 26: A lot of work remains before the closed section of SR 20/N Cascades Hwy (MP 130-156) can reopen, but we reached 2 big milestones:
- Rebuilding the largest washed out embankment at MP 145 to pavement level.
- Drilling the last hole for stabilizing dowels at MP 131.

UPDATE MAY 22: We're continuing to make good progress repairing SR 20 from December washout damage and a March rockslide.
Crews will be working hard through the holiday weekend, and we expect to fully reopen North Cascades Hwy by June 25.

UPDATE MAY 20: Crews are making progress in several areas repairing washout damage on SR 20 (MP 142-148).
Near MP 145, crews are rebuilding an embankment from the bottom up and are nearing the top of the roadway. We're also rebuilding washed away roadbed in other areas.

UPDATE MAY 15: Some good news to share - with work happening under both emergency contracts, we expect we'll fully reopen SR 20/North Cascades Hwy by June 25. This is 10 days earlier than the goal we stated last week.

UPDATE MAY 13: We began work on a second emergency contract to repair SR 20/North Cascades Hwy today.
This second contract will repair a 6-mile stretch (MP 142-148) where several sections of SR 20 were severely damaged by washouts in December.

UPDATE MAY 11: Crews finished scaling work above SR 20 near Diablo Lake over the weekend. Work shifts to drilling the rock face to anchor 20- to 60-foot dowels to further stabilize the slope.
SR 20 remains closed from MP 130-156. No hiking, biking or camping allowed in the area.

UPDATE MAY 7: Scaling work continues on a slope above SR 20 near Diablo Lake. Crews use hand tools, air compression (and a little muscle) to send loose rock down the slope.

UPDATE MAY 6: After getting equipment on site, our contractor began inspecting the slope and dislodging loose rocks and debris. This delicate process, called scaling, will continue for several days.
