It's also a good time to note that different kids need different books, and by even mildly insinuating that what they love isn't "good", they will interpret that to mean *they* are not good.
A good book is one a kid loves to read. Nobody needs more shame heaped upon them - whether writer OR reader.
It’s not the age, it’s the mileage.
I mean, on the upside, kidlit (once again) has a great opportunity to decide and stand for up for what we value, and how we want to show up in the industry - and the world.
We certainly didn't NEED it. But, you know. It IS what we do. Kids deserve all sorts of great books. So let's make them.
A little thing I do on Earth Day is try to envision all of the animals that were born on the same day as me and send them all a little hug.
We’ve all been growing along together.
