I prefer to have a full script written before I begin drawing. At first, I didn't transcribe text into my sketches at all, but I quickly found it better to do so, as I can visualize how much space the speech bubbles will actually be taking up on the final page. Every comic artist SHOULD do this!
for folks who write the comics you'll also be drawing: do you bother writing panel breakdowns or just a straight script or something more vague still that you'll cobble in thumbnails?
