Folks in the indie RPG space sometimes talk about D&D's hegemony, but I have a varying conjecture: first exposure imprinting. I think there are 5E diehards because people are exposed to playing one game instead of playing multiple games.
I gotta find an opportunity to use the word debouched in a dungeon
I literally had a Jacksonian seizure while drawing like 3 days ago and guess what I still don’t use ai to draw
Sounds like a @hodagrpg.bsky.social game name. DEBOUCHED! IN THE DUNGEON.
Damn David Hoskins is good at art huh
Anecdotally, folks who played Worm as their first game bounced of 5E (what do you mean I have to roll perception?). There are patterns you fall into with your first game and things you like about it that can be jarring when removed.

People pull out the list of supernatural creatures from the Denham Tracts because it may be the first print instance of the word "Hobbit," but I love this bit from the same page. It resonates with what I feel like Middle-earth is--a VERY magical place, with every boulder and crossroads haunted.
