God this poem is haunting me again.
It was written for children, although some grown-ups seem to like it, too, and it’s a bargain at £7.99. That’s roughly £992 cheaper than completing this year’s Panini World Cup sticker album, or £150 cheaper than a ticket to see Uzbekistan play the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The men’s football World Cup starts tomorrow so here’s a plug for my book of football poems, ’50 Ways to Score a Goal’. It can be read from beginning to end without having to pause in the middle to listen to Madonna, Shakira or BTS.
It can even be obtained in the US itself, assuming, that is, it’s allowed entry.
On the subject of the Fringe, any good recommendations as to what to go and see while I'm there? To my shame, I've never been before (that's why I thought I'd do it) but the number of shows is a little overwhelming to navigate.
‘The talksinging “Under A Cat” by Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires is worth the price of admission alone…’ thanks @addtowantlist.bsky.social for this great review of ‘Pets Sounds’

Dear X, I bought this book for you. But first, of course, I read it through ...and promptly stopped penning lame couplets. I treated @brianbilston.bsky.social 's delicious yellow book to coffee & pud at the pub. In return, highlights follow! Skip these posts, dear X...

Referee Omar Artan being banned from entering a World Cup country is a stain on this tournament. Freedom of movement was the lowest bar and still it failed. Column. ⬇️ inews.co.uk/sport/omar-a...

For the first time, I’m going to be reading poems at the #edfringe - seven shows from 24-30th Aug. Along the way, I’ll be talking about AI, Clare Grogan, the power of poetry and how to achieve a basic level of competence in a limited number of simple, unremarkable things. Link to tickets in bio.
Freedom of movement was a stipulation of hosting a World Cup – so what happened, Fifa?
