"Where the rules have been implemented, progress is visible. The real problem is not the law itself, but the persistent failure by Member States and the Commission to enforce it.
Dear Fashion Brands, Thanks to industry lobbying, leather is about to be cut out of the EU’s deforestation law. If leather is excluded, there'll be no credible system for you to prove your leather is deforestation-free. So the legal & reputational burden will shift onto you. Will you speak up?
ClientEarth Senior Lawyer Bellinda Bartolucci said: “The Commission’s own evaluation confirms a simple truth: when the Common Fisheries Policy is properly applied, fish populations can recover and coastal communities benefit.
We just won a landmark case to protect one of Europe’s most important marine sanctuaries: the Dogger Bank. 💫 The court ruling sets a precedent for governments across Europe and sends a clear message: protected must mean protected.
The Commission’s findings should serve as a wake-up call: what the EU needs now is implementation, enforcement, and investment in sustainable fisheries - not further legislative chaos." Read full quote on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/posts/client...
Dear Fashion Brands, why are you silent? With 16 civil society organizations including @mightyearth.org , @greenpeace.eu , @globalwitness.org, @umwelthilfe.bsky.social and @wwf.eu, we asked the European Fashion Industry to speak up. Because their absence is being read by decision-makers as consent.
A public consultation is open until 1 June. It's your chance to express why sustainable, deforestation-free leather matters to you. If fashion brands are not part of this conversation, it will be assumed that you do not care. Have your say before it's too late:
Ocean & Fisheries Commissioner Kadis presented the #CommonFisheriesPolicy evaluation report to Member States to the AGRIFISH Council today. The report leaves no room for doubt: "Evidence points to shortcomings in control, enforcement and compliance over the past decade".
EU law is clear: govts must protect sensitive areas from destructive human activities. Yet Dutch bottom trawlers are still allowed to fish there, even without permit. So we took the Dutch govt to court with @doggerland-fdn.bsky.social @ark-rewildingnl.bsky.social @bluemarinef.bsky.social and won.
