These past few weeks the fight for our uni has taken a new turn. We've lost ~700 staff already. Will it be 1000 in the end, with the management's "Strategy to Recovery"? Unis as a business vs as a place of research & education - coming to a head in Dundee and across the UK. More ⬇️
Very happy and proud about two recent preprints by talented PhD students Sümeyye Sen Alpay and Sarah Allen.
👀Pupil- and gaze dynamics track emotion content in natural speech doi.org/10.64898/202...
📖Cortical Tracking of Speech and Music Predicts Reading Ability in Adults doi.org/10.64898/202...
2️⃣ In the tracking & reading preprint 📖 we show that the strength of cortical speech and music tracking both predict reading skill (measured through a lexical decision task), which could imply the role of a domain-general temporal processing mechanism for reading.

Join us for the first symposium of the OPM-MEG Action Scotland (OMEGAS) initiative - www.dundee.ac.uk/omegas, to take place at the University of Dundee, *9-10 Dec*, and funded by the Quantum ARC quantum-tech-alliance.co.uk #neuroskyence #meg #opm /1
1️⃣ In the eye activity preprint 👀 we not only replicate recent findings that gaze and pupil dilation track naturalistic speech (eg by @quiringehmacher.bsky.social), but also show that this is modulated by the emotion content in speech and the listener's own mood.

@scone-neuro.bsky.social has a great review coming soon led by @annekeitel.bsky.social. We summarize major oscillatory mechanisms and discuss open questions across a range of subfields in cog neuro. The preprint should be out soon.
