And also this is the second time people protesting government violence and racism have been sentenced as terrorists, and that is *definitely* bad.
So I'm not sure if this was a mistake or whatever (I did not complain!), but my current MG contract is split into thirds for: signing, outline/materials, and delivery. For The Third Period Comeback, I was FULLY PAID before copy edits. It is kind of great.
Because books get bumped all the time, and frequently publishers do not tell the author. Like, we find out because we're looking up the ISBN on Amazon, or because a reader tags us when their preorder updates. And that's inconvenient, sure, but usually it means THE WRITER IS NOT GETTING PAID.
(This CTV article does, eventually, explain, but there are so many ad breaks and other clutter on the screen, I legit thought the article was over a couple paragraphs in.)
I really think every journalism outlet should say "antifascism" instead of "antifa", just so people are forced to realize what activists are actually doing.
It is already enough of a challenge to plan finances as an author, because it's so wildly variable and unpredictable. But finding out you won't be getting a third of your payment until MONTHS after you expected can be devastating.

One thing I forgot is that MURDER is with a new publisher, and therefore there is YET ANOTHER way of entering "EK Johnston" into a book website.
AO3 tag merging has really spoiled the rest of the internet for me. Because they can do it! But no one else can!
