Finally we know where the enigmatic Caribbean genus Calisto goes in the tree of life, thanks to the amazing work by Rayner Nunez! Mixture models seem to be the way to go!

🦋 Biodiversity genomics is helping researchers explore one of the largest branches of life on Earth.
Lepidoptera — butterflies and moths — make up nearly 10% of all known eukaryotic species, making them a key part of global biodiversity.

I am hiring a postdoc for a project on herbivory of Rhododendron by insects in North Wales! Genomics expertise required, field experience preferred. Hoping to hire quickly! Bangor is awesome! Get in touch if you want any more details! jobs.bangor.ac.uk/details.php....
We are very glad to introduce a new method for designing phylogenetically informative target-enrichment datasets that leverages recent whole-genome alignment methods to identify thousands of shared and homologous regions across a broad range of reference taxa!
Please, check out Benjamin's preprint!
We provide the first reliable hypothesis on the phylogenetic position of Calisto and Llorenteana within the tribe Satyrini, based on genomic data representing all subtribes.
We apply for the first t.....
guess who got accepted! 📝
fancy formatted PDF incoming, unformatted final submission now available for your reading pleasure, and maybe keep in mind for your next sample shipping, skip on the dry ice and save moneys while still making beautiful reference genomes!

Latest paper lead by Asia Hoile with @peterhox.bsky.social is out! 🦋
Nymphalid butterflies have reduced forelegs. Gene expression patterns show support for more palp-like genes involved in sensory processes in the forelegs relative to the walking legs.

A few summers ago, we individually reared 1200 wood tiger moth caterpillars with the aim to understand the associations and genetic basis of different traits; colour, chemical defences, behaviour, pheromones and more. The results are here!
