-first book in 2016, and went all-in on self-publishing. I do recommend it, with the giant caveat that you need to understand how much goddamn work it is. You are wearing EVERY HAT. The writing hat. The marketing hat. The accounting hat. It's a lot, and you need to know that before you start.

First go around, I had agents tell me that the book was solid, but there was no demand for the genre anymore (New Adult dystopian). So I went "fuck it" and did a zero-budget self-pub instead. This pen name, I had offers, but ultimately liked none of them, so I took everything I'd learned from that-

If my favourite authors were routinely coming out with books that cost between $17 for an ebook and $40 for a hardback, I'd probably also just go to the library for their next release. Publishers have lost the plot, is what's going on, this is just a side effect.
