Burnham won almost double Simons' majority. The vote on the far right was split, and Lib Dem/Green tactical voting did occur. But this is far beyond both, and it should be a sign for Starmer to see the gun in the drawer. I doubt he will, though.

Andy Burnham will win Makerfield by about five points. Seven would be a good victory. This will be a significant cut from Simons, who took it by 15 in '24, but Burnham is popular and well-connected. Many people recently voted for him for mayor. There are enough who want Labour to have a last gasp.
