-Leakage of cellular content by pore-forming antimicrobial peptides is not sufficient for cell lysis, which even in this case requires PG hydrolase activity. This calls into question the concept of the membranolytic activity of antimicrobial peptides. (3/3)
The key messages are: -Rather than caused by altered pH gradients directly regulating PG hydrolase activity, B. subtilis cell lysis in response to membrane-targeting antimicrobial is linked to delocalisation of MreB-homologues and the resulting missregulation of PG hydrolases. (2/3)
