When I first heard of this they weren't talking about criminal charges... now they are. Yikes.
Yup. Bluntly, most people don't know how true wealth works because most people don't have it, and the mechanisms that preserve and perpetuate it have nothing to do with their lives. Most people top out at a 401(k), not counting the gamblers on day trading apps thinking they can time the market.
This is a (minor) plot point in Starter Villain, where all the "billionaires" in the book are horribly illiquid, starved for cash, and have so fucked up their finances that they can't even get a loan based on their paper worth anymore.

This might be hard for Americans to hear, but the USA getting humiliated by its abject failure as a power during this Iran War might be the best thing possible at this time. The country needs to understand there are consequences for electing a crook.
