As a Principal Investigator at the UCD Perinatal Research Centre, she has published more than 100 research papers and supervises PhD, MD, MSc and undergraduate students.
A leading expert in addiction medicine, his work focuses on addiction treatment, reducing stigma around mental health, and promoting holistic, non-shame-based approaches to care through research, clinical practice and public engagement.
Both a graduate and a UCD School of Medicine faculty member, Prof Higgins is one of only two women to have received this prestigious degree. Higher Doctorates are the highest academic qualifications awarded by NUI and recognise a substantial and internationally distinguished body of scholarly work.
Professor Colin O’Gara is a Clinical Professor at the UCD School of Medicine and a Consultant Psychiatrist and Head of Addiction Services at St. John of God Hospital.
Professor O’Gara, commenting on figures showing €1.2 billion wagered online in a single quarter: “Really, the story is here, if that figure is so high, what kind of revenues are being generated by unregulated actors."
"But there is an argument that if regulators go too hard on the gambling platforms that are regulated, they run the risk of driving everything underground."
