Lufkin high school, 1913. Does anybody know if the building still stands?
Looking west on Travis Street toward the river bridge during the December, 1913 flood. 335 years ago today, San Antonio got its name. Sort of. On June 13, 1891, Franciscan friar Damián Massanet named the river "San Antonio de Padua." 27 years later, in 1718, the town was named after the river.
Three boys from Texas in the backseat of a migrant worker's car near Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, 1939. I can only imagine that these three, who look to be between six and nine years old, were a handful. You can almost hear them: "He hit me!" "Did not!" "Mom!"
Taken by the great Russell Lee.
I-45 in downtown Houston, 1961. Goodness gracious this scene has changed immeasurably since then!
PSA: "The Alamo," the 2004 movie starring Patrick Wilson as William Travis, Billy Bob Thornton as David Crockett, and Jason Patric as Jim Bowie. is currently available for streaming on Amazon. The movie's reviews are uneven, but I love it because it shows the characters as flawed humans. Watch it!
Ladies and gentlemen, the rough-and-tumble players of your 1896 Simmons college (now Hardin Simmons) football team in Abilene, Texas. Such a classic photo from The Portal to Texas History archives. I love not only the uniforms but the clothing and hats worn by whom I presume are the coaches.
The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day: The biggest-selling poster of all time is the famous red bathing suit poster of Texan Farrah Fawcett, which sold 12 million copies. It was not shot in a studio. Rather, photographer Bruce McBroom shot it in Fawcett's backyard, and she chose the swimsuit herself.
The interior of "Big Alice" Abbott's house of ill repute/bordello in El Paso, 1901.
Started watching the Spurs and almost forgot to post tonight's Texas music moment! This Don Henley song speaks to me because of a life experience:

Oh, yes ... @CharleyCrockett is bad company. But he can't help it ... he was born with a six-gun in his hands.
