Wow, lots of media from the GSL team lately! 👀 Check out Global Health Law Research Director @roojinhabibi.org weighing in on Canada's 90-day suspension of immigration documents for residents of DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan.
#Ebola
« A blanket suspension of immigration processing for entire nationalities fails each of those tests. It discriminates on the basis of nationality and perceived disease status. »
News these days fills me with dismay for the people of Iran.
So much life, love and beauty remains uncaptured by Western (or IR) media.
I hope to go back one day soon.
For now, I can only see it through the eyes of Iran's own youth - breathtakingly talented, courageous, undeterred.

I hear you. It’s truly stunning to hear the health minister saying that the decision to impose travel restrictions was “not a question of science”.
Sobering estimates out from CDC. This was not inevitable.

“Canada should know better by now. We have a long history of using discriminatory travel and immigration rules for political theatre rather than public health”

Where Canada's Ebola response not only includes blanket quarantine requirements, but also discriminatory immigration suspensions, Belgium shows it *is* possible to say no to Washington & follow scientific best practice.

We are learning more each day about how little thought has been given to these measures.
As I shared in my interview with Global News recently, the move has the makings of political theatre, rather than public health-grounded decision-making. 4/4
