when i was in school my identity was all over the place and a desire to fit in was more important than anything else. i didn't particularly prioritise connecting with my arab identity cos in a post gulf war then post 9/11 world, why would you? i posted about this before and the moment things changed

one of the most formative events of my life was the racist chants in 2003 during england v turkey. honestly at that point i realised i would never be accepted so i had to develop my identity more to incorporate my arab heritage.
