The Man Who's Spent a Lifetime Making One, Giant Map
I'm really noticing how much my social life is like an internal combustion engine. Once it's running it can sustain itself quite well indefinitely but if it ever stops fully it requires a big jolt of power from somewhere else to get it to turn over again.
Added a bunch more attacks on civilians with small drones to my map and database this week, on a related note. I should have a statistics page up in a few days and will be figuring out the best way to allow people to export raw data. map.faineg.com

Just doing my part to make sure that the GIS education of these students isn't just ESRI training material.
The Map Center is closed today because I'm a guest speaker at a GIS class at Yale University.

Maps are infrastructure too At a recent Internet Archive Europe workshop, we explored how OpenStreetMap and MapLibre are building open, community-governed alternatives to proprietary mapping platforms. Who decides what stays visible, preserved, and accessible? www.internetarchive.eu/2026/06/08/m...
