The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes: 🖌️ Dozens more images with duplications or painting 🖨️ Hundreds of blots that all share the same background (behold slideshow below)
We are thrilled to announce our new preprint from the wonderful @sorayavillaseca.bsky.social Ever wondered how cells squeeze through tiny spaces in embryos? Neural crest cells use Dynein to transport their nucleus along microtubules. Check out the preprint!! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Gutted not to be at the Cell Biology of the Neuron GRC this week - please do check out Emma Turner’s poster if you’re there. The next part of our kinesin-1 odyssey will be a preprint soon, but you can get a sneak peek this week :)

Elena Scarpa & The Squeezable Cells Lab
Sunday. Third trimester. I have a mountain of work to get through and there is not one chair in the house that’s comfortable. Meanwhile my passenger is pulling yoga moves inside me.
Sure there’s the odd high flying exception, but there’s usually some hidden secret sauce support going on in the background that mortals don’t have access to. Every ounce of support you scrape together comes with the feeling of how little valued you are. How expendable.
Doing this again, 11 years later, I have inevitably been reflecting a lot on support and lack of. Academic science remains completely unable to support women having babies. The U.K. government remains barely engaged. Nothing has moved on.
As long as Elon Musk is a member and Dorothy Bishop is not, they should talk neither about diversity nor excellence.
Patrick Vallance has twice written to MPs saying the budget for curiosity-driven research “will grow as the economy grows” But UKRI has flat cash for curiosity-led research through to 2030 When @isaacbarbosa1.bsky.social asked DSIT where the growth would come from, they had no answer A mystery
