I believe the mockup image is from Creating a Champion, but I made this one a couple years ago so can't quite recall.
This particular quote is from a year before the game released, but he was still talking about the magic system a mere 3-4 months before the game released. It's clear that it's removal and simplification (into the elemental arrows and spell crystals) happened very late in production.
