Another fresh preprint from the lab! Menarche marks an inflection point for female brain and mental health trajectories. This milestone may identify a critical window for screening. This is an effect you don't need stats to see (though we did those too). Led by @carinaheller.bsky.social 🧵👇
“These findings provide clear evidence that data collected on MTurk simply cannot be trusted.”
Very excited to announce our new preprint, led by @hollysully.bsky.social, that presents, benchmarks, and validates a method to estimate brain iron content from routine fMRI scans! It comes complete with a BIDS app! Check out the preprint and thread below! doi.org/10.64898/202...
I always assumed that brain function had to line up with cytoarchitectonics. It turns out I was wrong. Human cortex, especially PFC, is tiled by chains of functional patches that subdivide and interlink architectonic areas into parallel processing streams. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Very happy to share our paper on the "summer slide" in kid's cognitive test scores is out now in @pnas.org! We find a replicable dip in performance across multiple domains of cognition in >23,000 kids across 4 datasets! Check out the 🧵 from @ariellekeller.bsky.social below! 👇
New paper & a thread on the results 👇 ‘Reward-specific learning parameters change across normative adolescent development and are blunted in youth with high risk for depression’ acamh-onlinelibrary-wiley-com.ezp3.lib.umn.edu/doi/full/10....
Updated preprint: doi.org/10.1101/2025... We have improved DELSSOME and showed that we can accelerate the estimation of two new biophysical models. By collating 12,005 individuals, we derive normative trajectories of cortical E/I ratio across the lifespan ...
We think of white matter as the highways of the brain. But when we followed development along those highways, we were surprised. The journey is more complex than we thought. My final PhD paper, “Two Axes of White Matter Development”, is now out in @natcomms.nature.com! 🛣️🧠✨ 🔗 bit.ly/wm2axes

Ever wondered how white matter tracts actually map onto the cortical hierarchy and cognition—beyond the usual “projection vs association” labels? Our new preprint tackles exactly that! 🧠✨ doi.org/10.64898/202... Thread below 🧵

While the world burns, we cook up a new preprint! doi.org/10.1101/2025... Biophysical modeling is a key tool to derive mechanistic insights into the brain. These models are governed by biologically meaningful parameters (unlike artificial neural networks), but the dirty secret ... 1/N

Our paper on the ☀️ "summer slide" 🛝 is out now @pnas.org! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... Summer slide is a replicable phenomenon across diverse datasets that's more than "forgetting" school material in vacation months, but effects of socioeconomic inequality are ➡️ 7x bigger! ⬅️ #PsychSciSky #DevPsy 🧵👇

☀️ New preprint! ☀️ Cognitive tests from 23,000+ participants in 4 datasets show cyclical fluctuations across the calendar year, including a small but replicable “summer slide” where youth show worst performance after school vacation. t.ly/OMzgl #PsychSciSky #CogPsyc #CogDev #devpsy #CogSci Thread /1
