Unbelievably, Secretary Rollins just claimed that "no one has been kicked off SNAP." Under H.R. 1, low-income people are losing food assistance at the fastest rate in decades — even as the economy hasn't improved & grocery prices are rising. www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

The Trump Administration has apparently renamed the federal agency overseeing federal nutrition programs like SNAP, WIC, and school meals. (Certainly wouldn't want to imply that you might get any food and nutrition service!)
Secretary Rollins tells the Senate Agriculture Committee that “no one wants kids to be hungry.” In just the 12 states with available data, the number of children receiving SNAP has fallen by more than 700,000 since the deepest SNAP cuts in history were enacted in H.R. 1.
In MA, about 20% of grocery sales are from SNAP - SNAP is a critical part of our economy in every city and town across the Commonwealth!

A group of former governors in the Senate just released a statement in support of delaying H.R. 1's SNAP cost shift for all states, calling it a "ticking time bomb for state budgets and for millions of low-income families who depend on food assistance." www.hickenlooper.senate.gov/press_releas...
Here's just one example of the people who Secretary Rollins claims are "doing better:" www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2...
We know that the number of children receiving SNAP has fallen by more than 700,000 since H.R. 1 was enacted last summer because 12 state agencies publicly report the number of kids receiving benefits each month. That's not spin, it's just data. www.cbpp.org/blog/sharp-d...
H.R. 1's unprecedented SNAP cuts aren't just leaving low-income people without the food assistance they need to afford groceries — these cuts are also hurting the local businesses where those families spent their SNAP benefits. www.kcur.org/environment-...
As grocery prices continue to rise nationally, the House passed an appropriations bill that would cut $141 million in funding for a program that helps pregnant women and children purchase healthy foods.

These former governors are right: the SNAP cost shift is a ticking time bomb for state budgets. States will have to pay 100s of millions annually + had no say in its design or time to prepare. Extending the full 2-year delay to every state is a fair fix. www.hickenlooper.senate.gov/press_releas...

Millions of WIC recipients would have less money for fruits and vegetables under the legislation, which funds the Agriculture Department and other agencies.
