Someday my father will no longer be strong enough to carry in the groceries from the car but it is before his 2015 CR-V is mine to drive that this poem is written as an ode for him & not yet an elegy. My mom has been sitting cross-legged out on the porch for thirty minutes & everything is damp & bright—California has that way of forgetting the jacaranda is still exhaling yesterday's rain.
